This is one of my Family Heirloom recipes, that my Norwegian Grandma was making at least as early as the 1920s, when my Mom was just a little girl. It is a cake-like cookie, that seems to get better as it sits.

1 cshortening

1 csugar

2eggs
-
1 cmolasses

5 cflour, maybe a little less

2 tspcinnamon

1 tspginger

1 tspnutmeg

2 tspbaking soda

1/2 tspsalt

1 tspvinegar
-
1 cstrong, hot coffee
How To Make cry babies~ a molasses cookie

1Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy.

2Mix in eggs.

3Add spices, and 4 to 5 cups of flour, to make a very thick dough.

4Mix in hot coffee and vinegar.

5Drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheet (I line with parchment).

6Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes,
