These go back many years and keep well just stored in an old stone crock or pottery jar. An old twist on sugar cookies for a treat.

Ingredients For crock cookies

  • 1 c
    crisco (butter flavored)
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 2 c
    brown sugar (light)
  • 2 lg
    eggs(beaten)
  • 3 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 c
    milk
  • 1 c
    nuts (optional)

How To Make crock cookies

    Combine crisco, salt, vanilla, and nutmeg. Add brown sugar and cream well. Add beaten egss and mix well. Add 1/2 the flour and the soda and milk and mix well. Add the remaining flour and (optional) nuts.

    Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 6 to 8 minutes. (depending on if you want softer cookies or crisper cookies). These make also be dropped from a teaspoon (softer cookies)and baked or dropped from teaspoon and patted with wet fork (for thinner-crispier cookies.

    I grew up with the thin patted ones, but have made the softer ones many times and they are just as tasty.
