cream cheese sugar cookies

I used to make these during the holidays and some I would cut out into shapes and let the kids ice them. But for the most part, I would make them as drop cookies and still have the kids ice some..They loved these sugar cookies. I found this recipe in a hometown paper years ago and thought it would be different with the cream cheese in it. It is the best I have had!

yield 4 -5 Dozen Cookies

Ingredients For cream cheese sugar cookies

  • 4 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, one package
  • 1 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla

How To Make cream cheese sugar cookies

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • 2
    Combine flour, baking powder, salt & nutmeg; set aside
  • 3
    Cream butter and shortening; add cream cheese & sugar, beating til fluffy.

    Add egg & vanilla; beat well.

    Gradually beat in flour mix.

    Divide dough in half. Cover & chill 1-2 hours.

    On a lightly floured surface, roll dough 1/8 in. thick. Cut with cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheets,bake for 7-9 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Frost and decorate as desired.

    *Or scoop in tsp or tblsp (depending on how big you want them)flatten a bit and bake.
