This is one of my sister Sandy's family recipes. These bars are rich and goey.

Ingredients For congo bars

  • 1 lb
    brown sugar
  • 1 c
    shortening (i used butter flavored crisco bars)
  • 2 2/3 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 c
    chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 c
    coconut
  • 2 c
    chocolate chips

How To Make congo bars

  • 1
    Pour melted shortening over brown sugar in mixing bowl, beat till mixed well. Add the 3 eggs, flour, soda, salt and spread evenly, then bake 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees. Cut into squares and enjoy!
