This is from my Betty Crockers Cooky Book. These were called one of the best Cooky of 1800-1900. I love this book it also contains historical facts. 1896 A Chinese chef in New York concoted the first chop suey.

1/2 cshotening (part butter or margrine)

1 csugar

1egg

3/4 cbuttermilk

1 tspvanilla

2 cflour
-
1/2 tspbaking soda

1/2 tspsalt

1/4 csugar

1 tspcinnamon
How To Make cinnamon jumbles

1Mix shortening 1cup of sugar and egg thoroughly. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla. Blend in flour, soda, and salt. Chill dough at least 1 hour.

2Heat oven to 400 degrees. Drop rounded teaspoons on lightly greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Bake 8-10 minutes. or until set but not brown.
