Ingredients For churros

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 tsp. lemon extract or juice
  • oil for deep frying
  • sifted powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar

How To Make churros

  • 1
    Mix the water, salt, sugar and butter or margarine in a pan and bring to a full boil, stirring constantly. Add flour mixing thoroughly. Remove from heat, mix til smooth and dough comes away from sides of pan. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing til smooth. Stir in lemon and cool.

    Heat oil in deep skillet. Fill cake decorator with dough and put on a 1/2 inch star tip. Push out 7 inch long ribbons of dough, a few at a time, into hot oil. Fry 5 minutes while turning til golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels. While warm, roll in powdered sugar. Best eaten while warm. Goes well with coffee.
