Ingredients For chinese chews

2 1/2 coatmeal, uncooked

2 cflour
-
1 cbrown sugar

1 cshortening
-
1 tspsoda
-
1 tspsalt
-
1 Tbspwater
-
8 ozdates
-
1 cwater

1 cwhite sugar
How To Make chinese chews

1Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, shortening, soda, salt, and water together. (Set aside a little less than half.)

2Bring dates, water, and white sugar to a boil in a 1 quart saucepan, allow to boil slowly for approximately 10 minutes until mixture thickens.

3Press the oatmeal mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Spread the date mixture over this layer, then cover with remaining oatmeal mixture. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes.
