One of my favorite cookies. My neighbor use to make them at Christmas when I was a child, then my mom starting making them, now I make them . I remember one year I made a double batch for Christmas, one I shared and one was hidden for just me!

Ingredients For cherry winks

2 1/4 call purpose flour

1 tspbaking powder

1/2 tspbaking soda

1/2 tspsalt

3/4 cshortening
-
1 cgranulated sugar

2 lgeggs
-
2 Tbsphalf and half
-
1 tspvanilla extract
-
1 cchopped black walnuts
-
2 1/2 cfinely chopped corn flakes
-
marascino cherries quartered
How To Make cherry winks

11. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt

22. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the shortening and granulated sugar.

33. Blend in the eggs one at a time until well combined.

44. Add the milk and vanilla.

55. Gradually add the flour mixture and mix well.

66. Mix in the nuts, carefully. Chill for about a hour so they are easier to roll in balls.

77. Shape dough into small balls using a level tablespoon for each cookie.

88. Roll each ball into the crushed cornflakes.

99. Place on a greased baking sheet or parchment lined baking sheetand top with a quarter of the maraschino cherry.

1010. Bake at 350 for 10 - 12 minutes
