Blue Ribbon Recipe

Slightly nutty, slightly fruity, and perfectly sweet, these cherry chews are a great treat for any celebration. The cherries burst in your mouth while you chew. Then, you get bits of pecans and the sweetness of coconut. Smooth and creamy, the icing adds another layer of cherry flavor and sweetness.

Ingredients For cherry chews

  • CRUST
  • 1 c
    sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 c
    rolled oats
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    softened butter
  • FILLING
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    almond extract
  • 2 Tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    shredded coconut
  • 16 oz
    maraschino cherries, halved
  • 1/2 c
    pecan halves
  • CHERRY ALMOND ICING
  • 3 Tbsp
    softened butter
  • 2 c
    sifted icing sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    maraschino cherry juice
  • 1/4 tsp
    almond extract

How To Make cherry chews

  • Mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.

    Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add butter.

  • Press the mixture into a baking dish and bake.

    Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 13X9X2 pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
