These are my oldest son Bruce's favorite cookie! This is one of my most used recipes. Sometimes I substitute dates, craisins or chocolate pieces for the raisins. This recipe really makes a big batch.

Ingredients For boiled raisin cookies

2 craisins
-
1 cwater
-
2 csugar
-
3/4 cshortening, crisco

3/4 cbutter, softened

3eggs

1 tspvanilla extract

5-6 cflour
-
1 coatmeal, uncooked

1/2 tspsalt

1 tspnutmeg or omit and use 2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 tspcinnamon

2 tspbaking soda in 1/4 cup hot water

1 cnuts
How To Make boiled raisin cookies

1Boil raisins with water until almost all water is absorbed. Cool.

2Cream together sugar, crisco, and butter. Add eggs.

3Sift together flour, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon.

4Add to butter mixture and mix in remaining ingredients, including the raisins.

5Drop by teaspoon onto un-greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Let stand on cookie sheet 2 minutes, then remove to wire rack to cool.
