These are one of my grandsons favorite cookies. I had asked a friend to send me their Anise Cookie recipe several years ago and the format didn't come through on my computer properly, so I took what came through and made it into my own recipe. Mine came out much lighter, and everyone loved them. So I stuck with my version. Here it is....

Ingredients For anise cookies

1 cshortening

1 cbutter, softened

1 csugar

1/2 bottleanise extract
-
4eggs
-
4 cflour
-
1/2 tspsalt
-
4 tspbaking powder
- FROSTING

1 lbconfectioner's sugar

1/2 bottleanise exract

warm water
How To Make anise cookies

1Preheat oven to 350°. Cream together shortening, butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beat at medium after each addition. Add 1/2 bottle of Anise extract, beat until mixed. Add flour, salt and baking powder, beat at medium until mixed. Drop by teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet, bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes. Let cool and frost with Anise Frosting below.

2Frosting: Mix together Anise extract and sugar. Add warm water a little at a time until icing is correct consistency for spreading

3You can add a drop of food coloring to frosting to make them any color you want.
