These sugar cookies have a semi-crisp bite to them. That is just like I like them. The butter gives them a rich balance and the addition of the heavy cream assists in the resulting texture. These are by far the best sugar cookie I have ever had, but you decide for yourself. The cookie bakes up very flat and is great for gift giving, as they stack quite nicely for wrapping in cellophane and a ribbon. My advice is to bake plenty if you plan on letting the secret out that you baked them.

  • 1 1/2 stick
    unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 lg
    egg
  • 1/2 tsp
    kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 3/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    heavy cream
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour

    Beat sugar with butter in a mixing bowl.

    Mix in flour until well blended.

    Form 1 1/4 inch balls of dough. Place on an ungreased sheet (9 to a sheet). Flatten each ball with a flat bottomed glass dipped in sugar.

    Bake in a 375 degree oven for up to 11 minutes.

    Remove from oven and cool for two minutes before transferring with a spatula to a rack to cool completely.
