These have been my son's "birthday cake" ever since he was about 3 years old. The brownies are chewy and chocolately, and best of all, easy to make!

Ingredients For zach's birthday brownies

  • BROWNIES
  • 1 c
    butter, room temperature
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 4 Tbsp
    cocoa powder (heaping)
  • 4
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    walnuts, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • ICING
  • 1 - 1 1/2 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 2 Tbsp
    boiling water
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract

How To Make zach's birthday brownies

    Cream sugar, cocoa and butter.

    Add beaten eggs and vanilla.

    Add flour and fold in walnuts.

    Bake in greased 9x13 pan at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Top will appear underdone (falls in the middle) but DON'T overbake!! Should be moist and chewy. While brownies are baking, prepare icing by mixing ingredients together with electric beater.

    Add icing immediately after removing brownies from oven so it will melt into a shiny glaze.
