These biscuits have a wonderful chocolate flavor, and the brown sugar cinnamon butter puts them over the top! You can also use the biscuits for a chocolate version of strawberry shortcakes, and the brown sugar cinnamon butter is good on bagels & toast, too! This recipe is adapted from a recipe I saw on "How Sweet it Is". Try it...you'll love it!

Ingredients For chocolate biscuits w/brown sugar cinnamon butter

  • BISCUITS
  • 2 3/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    unsweetend cocoa powder (i use hershey's special dark)
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 1/4 c
    buttermilk
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • BROWN SUGAR CINNAMON BUTTER
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    cinnamon

How To Make chocolate biscuits w/brown sugar cinnamon butter

    Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda & salt in a large bowl.

    Add the butter pieces into the mixture and use a pastry blender, fork, or two knives to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles course crumbs.

    Add the buttermilk and vanilla, and stir until combined. Use your hands to bring it together if need be.

    Lay a piece of parchment paper (or use a pastry mat), and sprinkle it liberally with cocoa powder. Drop the dough on it and pat it down with your hands to about 1/2 thick. Cut with a biscuit cutter, and place on a nonstick cookie sheet. Bake about 12 - 15 min. (mine only take 12 min), in a preheated 425 degree oven.

    While the biscuits are baking, mix 1 stick of softened butter with the 2 tablespoons of brown sugar & 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon until well mixed. Enjoy!
