These were a favorite of my mother-in-law. However, she never could make these without burning them so she would buy the ingredients and have me make them for her. She was the best mother-in law anyone could ask for and I miss her dearly.

Ingredients For original pecan pralines

  • 2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 2 1/2 c
    mixed pecan pieces,and halves
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter

How To Make original pecan pralines

    Combine sugar and water in a heavy 2-qt saucepan.

    Heat to boiling, using low heat and stirring CONSTANTLY. Stir in pecans.

    Cook until mixture reaches softball stage or 235 degrees. Be careful not to burn.

    Remove from heat; stir in butter. Immediately drop by tablespoon onto waxed paper.

    Let stand until firm. Yield about 1 1/2 dozen.
