I have been making this toffee for over 40 years it is very good

Ingredients For english toffee

  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    butter
  • 3 Tbsp
    water
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 4 oz
    chocolate bar
  • 1/2 c
    pecans finely ground up

How To Make english toffee

    Combine sugar,butter and water in heavy saucepan.

    cook to 300* or hard crack stage stirring constantly.

    add vanilla.Pour into buttered 9x9 x1 1/2" pan.Cool 5 minutes then break candy bar 4 1/2 oz.into pieces and put on top let melt then spread evenly over top of candy, sprinkle 1/2 cup finely chopped pecons . let cool completely so chocolate is totally set firm.

    my tip for breaking into more even pieces is taking a sharp metal spatula, and take a small hammer and tap into strips and then across to make squares, just makes for prettier candy but you can just break into pieces also Enjoy!!!
