This was my favorite candy for the Christmas holidays. My mother would make it especially for me every year. She rolled hers in coconut and I roll mine in powdered sugar.

Ingredients For date balls

  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 2 c
    pecans, chopped
  • 2 c
    chopped dates
  • 1 c
    butter, softened
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 5 c
    rice krispies cereal

How To Make date balls

  • 1
    Melt the butter. Add the sugar.
  • 2
    Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

    Add the dates. Cook for five minutes.
  • 4
    Remove from heat and cool a few minutes.

    Add hot mixture, a spoonful at a time, to the eggs. Stir rapidly.

    Boil two minutes longer. Remove from heat.

    Pour over rice krispies. Roll into balls. Roll balls in coconut or powdered sugar. Chill until serving time.
