This is how mints have been made in my family for generations. My son loves to make these at Christmas time because he can do them with no help..and they taste great too!!

Ingredients For butter mints

  • 4 Tbsp
    margarine, softened
  • 1/3 c
    light syrup
  • 1 tsp
    peppermint extract
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 4 3/4 c
    (1 lb) powdered sugar
  • 2
    drops green food coloring
  • 2
    drops red food coloring

How To Make butter mints

  • 1
    In large mixing bowl, combine first 4 ingredients.

    Slowly add sugar, mixing by hand.

    Divide in half and add food coloring.
  • 4
    Form small balls and drop them on to parchment paper. Using the back side of a spoon, press down gently to give them the "after dinner mint" shape.
