This is one of my favorite deserts to make. Everyone in my family can't get enough of them. Its fun and easy! These are also one of the Amish/Mennonite popular recipes!

Ingredients For whoopie pies

  • FOR CAKES
  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • CREAM TOGETHER THEN ADD:
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • BEAT WELL. THEN ADD:
  • 1 c
    thick sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 c
    cold water
  • STIR WELL. MIX TOGETHER THEN ADD:
  • 4 c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    cocoa
  • MAY NEED TO ADD SOME MORE FLOUR IF MILK IS NOT THICK.
  • WHOOPIE PIE FILLING:
  • 2
    egg whites
  • 1 Tbsp
    vanilla
  • BEAT TOGETHER THEN ADD:
  • 2 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 c
    crisco

How To Make whoopie pies

  • 1
    FOR CAKES: Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes or until springs back when touched lightly.
  • 2
    FOR FILLING: Spread this on the bottom of one cookie. Place another cookie on top. (sandwish style).
