This is a really delicious apple cake that I have made for years , the recipe is from a recipe card group that I have had for years called 'My great recipes " and the picture is from the card. Sometimes I serve this cake with sweetened vanilla whip cream instead of frosting.

Ingredients For washington apple cake
- FOR THE CAKE :

3 lgeggs

1 1/2 csugar

1 coil
-
2 cflour
-
2 tspcinnamon

1 tspsoda
-
1/2 tspsalt
-
1 tspvanilla extract

1 cwalnuts or pecans
-
4 cthinly sliced cut apples (about 5 med.)
- FOR THE ICING :

2 pkgcream cheese (3oz. ea.)

1/4 cmelted butter
-
1-3/4 cpowdered sugar
-
1 tsplemon juice
How To Make washington apple cake

1In a large bowl beat the eggs on high speed with a hand mixer until mixed well , add the sugar and oil and beat well.

2Mix the flour , cinnamon ,soda and the salt together and add to the creamed batter. Add the vanilla and walnuts or pecans.

3Butter a 13x9" pan and spread the sliced apples on the bottom ; Pour the batter over top of the apples and spread out evenly to cover all the apples.

4Bake @ 350° for 1 hr. or until tooth pick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Top should be a pale golden and apples should be tender. Remove from the oven and let cool ; frost with cream cheese frosting.

5For the cream cheese : beat the cream cheese and the butter until smooth ; add the powdered sugar and lemon juice and beat until smooth and creamy.
