This recipe comes from my grandma who I miss dearly. She used to make it all the time and then taught me how to make it. This is the most moist chocolate cake I have ever baked or eaten. I hope everyone who makes this recipe enjoys it as much as I do. The recipe calls to bake this cake 30 minutes but in some instances I have had to go as high as 45 minutes. The icing that is used is very good but you have to beat it for 12 minutes. The original recipe makes a small square cake but I double the recipe and use a 9 x 13 inch cake pan.

Ingredients For wacky cake and 12 minute icing

1 1/2 cflour

1/3 ccocoa

1 csugar

1/2 tspsalt

1 tspbaking soda

1 ccold water

1/2 coil

1 tspvinegar
- 12 MINUTE ICING

1 stickbutter, softened

1/2 ccrisco or lard
-
1 cgranulated sugar

3 Tbspflour
-
2/3 cmilk
-
1 tspvanilla extract
How To Make wacky cake and 12 minute icing

1Sift together all the dry ingredients

2Add the water oil and vinegar and mix thoroughly. This can be done with a spoon or mixer. If you use a mixer you will achieve a denser cake.

3Bake in oven preheated to 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes. Times will vary with ovens and elevations. Bake until fork inserted in center comes out clean.

4Icing: Cream together the butter, crisco and white sugar.

5Add in the flour one tablespoon at a time until incorporated.

6Add both the milk and vanilla mixing until incorporated. do this slowly or may splatter everywhere.

7Once ingredients are incorporated continue to mix on high for 12 minutes.
