I got this recipe from a Southern Living cookbook when I was a teenager. It was called "Virginia Brownies" and is super easy to make. When I changed the frosting and made it out of powdered sugar my co-workers dubbed them "Treadmill Worthy Brownies." Great with either frosting - buttercream or fudge.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

These brownies have some seriously good chocolate flavor. Definitely worth a spin on the treadmill! They are sweet and decadent but too rich that you can finish a square. The tender and fudge-like brownie is held together by the yummy chocolaty topping. These homemade brownies would be just as good without the topping... but it does make them even better. We opted for the fudge frosting, but the buttercream would be delish too.
