To make a really good pound cake the recipe must include 1 pound of flour, 1 pound of eggs, 1 pound of sugar and 1 pound of fat. This recipe has the necessary sugar fat ratio needed to make it moist, fluffy yet give it the dense texture that a pound cake needs.

Ingredients For traditional pound cake

  • 3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 6
    eggs
  • 3 c
    sugar
  • 1 box
    cream cheese
  • 1 stick
    butter
  • 2 stick
    margarine
  • 2 tsp
    lemon extract or any flavor

How To Make traditional pound cake

    Beat cream cheese, butter and margarine together for 3 minutes in an extra large mixing bowl. Add flavoring.

    Mix flour and sugar in another bowl. Add 1/2 cup flour mixture to butter mixture and beat thoroughly. Add 1 egg and beat thoroughly again. Continue adding alternatley 1/2 cup flour mixture and 1 egg until all have been mixed. Mixture will be stiff.

    Pour mixture into a well greased and floured tube pan. Place in a cold oven and set oven temp to 325 degrees. Bake for 1 hour before opening the door to check for doneness.
