Do you need a chocolate fix? This will do the trick. The chopped Whopper malted milk candies melt into the the cake while it's cooking and boy oh boy it makes for a great cake. Chocolaty with a light caramel flavor Enjoy!

Ingredients For texas chocolate buttermilk whopper cake

  • FOR CAKE:
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1/6 c
    cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    fresh grated cinnamon, i use a microplane
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/4 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 c
    whopper malted milk candies, chopped
  • FOR CHOCOLATE GLAZE:
  • 1/8 c
    butter
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    buttermilk
  • 1 c
    powdered sugar - heaping cup
  • 1/4 tsp
    vanilla extract

How To Make texas chocolate buttermilk whopper cake

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a saucepan add butter, cocoa powder, and 1/2 cup water. Bring mixture to a boil. Turn off heat and allow to cool slightly.

    In a mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.

    In a measuring cup combine buttermilk, vanilla extract, and egg. Whisk to combine.

    Pour cocoa mixture into flour mixture and mix on low. Add buttermilk mixture and mix to combine thoroughly. Stir in chopped whoppers. The batter will be thin.

    Pour into prepared 9 x 9 baking pan. Bake 25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool while making buttermilk chocolate glaze.

    For Glaze: In saucepan combine butter, cocoa, and buttermilk. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Add vanilla extract and powdered sugar. Stir with a whisk until smooth. Pour over cake. Allow to set before serving. Serve warm or cooled - it's great either way.
