spiced apple cinnamon bars

A recent trip to a local orchard left me with an abundance of fresh apples. After experimenting with several different recipes, I came up with this one. :-) I hope you enjoy them! (Try mixing two or more different varieties of apples for a wide range of flavor. I like Jonathan, Jonagold, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith for baking)

Ingredients For spiced apple cinnamon bars

2 cflour

2 tspbaking powder

1/2 tspsalt

1 tspcinnamon

1/2 tspnutmeg

1/4 tspallspice (or slightly more)

1/2 cbutter (melted)

3/4 cbrown sugar (i prefer dark)

1/2 csugar
-
2 lgeggs
-
1 tspvanilla extract
-
1 tspalmond extract
-
1 1/2 capples (peeled, chopped)

1/2 cwalnuts (finely chopped/optional)

1 Tbspsugar
-
1 tspcinnamon
How To Make spiced apple cinnamon bars

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9 x13 inch pan with non stick cooking spray. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and spices.

2In a large bowl, mix together melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Add eggs and extracts and blend well.

3Blend in flour mixture and then stir in the apples and walnuts (optional).

4Spread evenly in prepared pan. In a small bowl, combine remaining sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top.

5Bake for 30 minutes until center springs back when slightly touched. Cool and cut into bars.
