Got this from a friend I worked with.This was her Mother's recipe. They are from WV. I had to beg her for this recipe after she brought me some, after her Christmas vacation to WV to visit her Mother. It is very addictive.

Ingredients For orange slice cake

  • 1 c
    butter softened
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 5
    eggs room temperature
  • 4 c
    flour, all purpose, sifted
  • 1 tsp
    soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 8 oz
    chopped dates
  • 1 can
    coconut, flaked
  • 1 lb
    orange slice candy, chopped
  • 2 c
    pecans, chopped
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    lemon extract

How To Make orange slice cake

    Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

    Cream butter & sugar, add eggs one at a time and beat well after each egg.

    Sift 3 1/2 cups flour, soda, & salt. Add alternately with buttermilk. And mix well.

    With remaining 1/2 cup flour, coat nuts, coconut, dates, & orange slices. Fold into mixture. Add vanilla and lemon flavorings.

    Pour into a greased & floured tube pan. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 hr.
