My grandpa use to make this on special occasions. This cake takes a little while to bake - but it is well worth the wait. It is a rich cake BUT so good.

Ingredients For orange slice cake

4eggs
-
1 cbutter
-
2 csugar
-
1 Tbspbaking soda
-
1/2 cbuttermilk
-
3 1/2 cflour
-
1 cancoconut flakes
-
1 lborange slice candies, chopped

1 lbdates, chopped
-
2 cpecans, chopped
- TOPPING -

1 cunsweetened orange juice
-
2 cconfectioners' sugar
How To Make orange slice cake

1Preheat oven: 275 degrees....Grease & flour tube pan; set aside.

2In large bowl: cream butter & sugar, add eggs 1 at a time; beat well. Dissolve baking soda & buttermilk in a small dish; add to creamed mixture.

3In another large bowl: add flour, dates, nuts, coconut & candies; stir ingredients around so they are all coated with the flour. Slowly add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture & - MIX WITH HAND!

4Put in prepared tube pan -- Bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. DO NOT REMOVE FROM PAN!!

5TOPPING - Combine orange juice & confectioners sugar & pour over "HOT" cake. Let cake sit in pan over night.
