I sent for this cookbook many years ago.It was on the radio on a cook show. I have made this a few times.This is one of my husbands favorites.

Ingredients For old fashioned spice squares

  • 1 c
    water
  • 1 c
    seedless raisins
  • 1/2 c
    salad oil
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg,lightly beaten
  • 1 3/4 c
    sifted flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1 tsp
    ground alspice
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1/2 c
    chopped nuts

How To Make old fashioned spice squares

    Combine water and raisins.Bring to boil,remove from heat and stir in salad oil. Cool to lukewarm.

    Add sugar and egg.

    Sift dry ingredients together and beat into raisin mixture.Add nuts.

    Pour into greased 13x9 pan and bake in 375 oven for 25 minutes.

    When cool,cut into squares.Frost with butter frosting.
