My mother used to make this for my birthday, because I LOVE chocolate cake. And this recipe is one of my favorites for chocolate cake.

Ingredients For old-fashioned chocolate cake

3/4 cbutter, softened

1-2/3 csugar

3 lgeggs

1 tspvanilla

1-1/2 call purpose flour
-
1/2 cwhole wheat flour

2/3 cbaking cocoa

1-1/4 tspbaking soda

1/4 tspbaking powder

1/2 tspsalt
-
1-1/3 cwater
-
2 csemisweet chocolate chips

2 cpowdered sugar
-
2/3 cfat-free, evaporated milk
How To Make old-fashioned chocolate cake

1Heat oven to 350. Spray 2- 9" round baking pans w/ cooking spray. In lg bowl, combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat on high w/ mixer for 3 mins.

2In another bowl, combine flours, baking cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add alternately w/ water to butter mix. Beat just until combined. Pour evenly into pans. Bake 30-35 min, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. cool.

3Remove cooled cakes from pans. Place chocolate chips in microwaveable bowl. Microwave on high for 1-1/2 mins, stir. Microwave and stir until smooth. Whisk in powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Frost cakes.
