Ingredients For old-fashioned molasses cake

2 Tbspbutter, softened

1/4 csugar

1egg

1/2 cdark molasses (or 3/4 cup light molasses)

1 call-purpose flour

1 tspbaking soda

1/4 tspginger, ground

1/4 tspcinnamon, ground

1/8 tspsalt

1/2 chot water
-
1/2 cFat-Free Cool Whip, optional
How To Make old-fashioned molasses cake

1Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a small bowl, beat the butter and sugar until crumbly, about 2 minutes.

2Beat in the egg.

3Beat in the molasses.

4In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.

5Add to the butter mixture alternately with the water, mixing well after each addition.

6Transfer to a 9-in. square baking pan coated with cooking spray.

7Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

8Cool on a wire rack.

9Cut into squares; garnish with whipped topping.
