old time recipe; oldie but goodie.. When I was growing up in the 1940s we didn't have a lot of money. We had a hugh garden, & we canned any extra vegetables for winter. We also gathered apples form our orchard & butternuts. ( Which you don't see much anymore) Mom always bought a couple of bushels of peaches in the fall which we canned but first we had sliced peaches served on this wonderful cake

3 cflour

3 cwhite sugar

3 tspbaking powder

1 cwhole milk
-
1-1/2 cvegetable shortning
-
6whole eggs
-
l tspvanilla extract
-
1/2 cbutternuts chopped..( i now use walnuts)
How To Make my mom's poor mans pound cake .

1Preheat oven to 350. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl& beat for 5 minutes or until well mixed.

2Pour into a lightly greased 10 inch tube pan.Bake for about 70 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

3Cool cake in pan on a cooling rack. then flip out of pan. Best served at room temperature or slightly chilled. Serve with slicd peaches, strawberries or fuit of your choice.
