German Sweet Chocolate cake has always been my favorite cake,when we were growing up,my Mother would make our favorite dinner and favorite cake for our birthdays. I always chose this cake. It's still my favorite today.

Ingredients For my favorite german sweet chocolate cake

1 pkg (4 oz) baker's german sweet chocolate

1/2 c boiling water

1 c butter or margarine

2 c sugar

4 egg yolks
-
1 t. vanilla

2 1/4 c sifted flour or 2 1/2 c sifted cake flour

1 t. baking soda
-
1/2 t. salt
-
1 c buttermilk

4 egg whites,stiffly beaten
- COCONUT-PECAN FROSTING

1 c evaporated milk
-
1 c sugar
-
3 slightly beaten egg yolks
-
1/2 c butter or margarine

1 t. vanilla

1 1/3 c coconut
-
1 c chopped pecans
How To Make my favorite german sweet chocolate cake

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut wax paper to fit 3 9-inch round cake pans. Fit into bottoms of pans Melt chocolate in boiling water.Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.Add yolks,1 at a time,beating well after each addition. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture,beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into 3 9 inch layer pans lined on bottoms with wax paper. Bake 30-35 minutes. Cool. Frost tops of cakes only. Coconut-Pecan Frosting:Combine milk,sugar,egg yolks and butter. Cook and stir over medium heat until thicken about 15 minutes. Remove from heat,add vanilla,coconut and pecans.Cool until thick enough to spread,beating occasionally.
