mom's milky way cake

Mom made this as far back as I can remember. It was her "go to" cake. I'm not sure why it has this name because there are no Milky Ways in it. Dad didn't care for icing so this was served plain like you would a snack cake. It sure is good with a cold glass of milk!

Ingredients For mom's milky way cake

  • 1/2 c
    crisco
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 4 Tbsp
    cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 c
    boiling water

How To Make mom's milky way cake

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9'x13' baking pan.

    Cream together the crisco, sugar, eggs and vanilla.

    In separate bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda.

    Alternately add the flour mixture and the buttermilk to the sugar. Blend well.

    Stir in the boiling water being careful not to splatter.

    Pour into prepared baking pan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
