mom's milky way cake

Mom made this as far back as I can remember. It was her "go to" cake. I'm not sure why it has this name because there are no Milky Ways in it. Dad didn't care for icing so this was served plain like you would a snack cake. It sure is good with a cold glass of milk!

2 csugar

1 tspvanilla

2 call purpose flour

4 Tbspcocoa

1/2 tspsalt

1 tspbaking soda

1/2 cbuttermilk
-
1 cboiling water
How To Make mom's milky way cake

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9'x13' baking pan.

2Cream together the crisco, sugar, eggs and vanilla.

3In separate bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda.

4Alternately add the flour mixture and the buttermilk to the sugar. Blend well.

5Stir in the boiling water being careful not to splatter.

6Pour into prepared baking pan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
