While we were stationed in Germany our land lady used to make the most fantastic apple cake. So I decided to come up with my own recipe for fresh apple cake and I hit the jack pot. I have been making it ever since, it is so simple you can do it with your eyes closed.

Ingredients For mom's fresh german apple kuchen

  • 4 c
    granny smith apples coarsley sliced
  • 1 1/2 c
    canola oil
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 3 lg
    eggs
  • 3 c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • nutmeg sprinkle on top

How To Make mom's fresh german apple kuchen

    Preheat oven at 375* Lightly grease and flour 9 inch baking pan.

    In bowl cream Oil, sugar, and eggs, beat after each addition. Add flour and baking soda, and salt, add vanilla, you can add the apples to the mix or spread apples on top and press apples into mixture. I prefer the apples on top, sprinkle with nutmeg on top.

    The mixture will be thick in consistency. Place in oven and bake for 1 - 1 1/2 hour. Till knife inserted comes out clean. Let cool on cake rack, serve with powder sugar sprinkled on top. Great warm or cold
