I first had this SINFUL cake 25 years ago at the office where I worked. It was always requested! While it takes quite a while to make (it is worth it - yummy) I do it in two days - the cake the first day - icing the second. After frosting cake needs to cool overnight or several hours before cutting

Ingredients For "milky way" cake
- BEFORE FROSTING CAKE NEEDS TO COMPLETELY COOL, AND BEFORE SLICING (AFTER FROSTING) IT NEEDS TO COOL SEVERAL HOURS OR PREFERABLY OVERNIGHT

6(1-11/16 oz) chocolate-covered malt-caramel candy bars ( or 4-3/4 of 2.15 oz bars)

1/2 cbutter or margarine

2 csugar
-
1 cshortening
-
4eggs
-
2 1/2 call purpose flour
-
1 tspsalt
-
1 1/2 cbuttermilk

1/2 tspsoda
-
1vanilla extract
- CHOCOLATE-MARSHMALLOW FROSTING

2 csugar
-
1 can(13 oz) evaporated milk
-
1/2 cbutter or margarine
-
1 pkg(6 oz) package semi-sweet chocolate pieces

1 cmarshmallow cream
How To Make "milky way" cake

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees - grease and flour 3 9 inch cake pans

2Combine candy bars and butter in a heavy saucepan; place over low heat until melted, stirring constantly - set aside

3Combine sugar and shortening; beat until creamy

4Add eggs, and continue beating until light and fluffy - set aside

5Combine flour and salt and set aside

6Combine buttermilk and soda and set aside

7Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beating well after each addition

8Stir in vanilla and candy bar mixture

9Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9 inch cake pans. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until done.

10When layers are COMPLETELY cool, frost with Chocolate marshmallow frosting

11INSTRUCTIONS FOR FROSTING

12Combine sugar, milk and butter in a heavy sauce pan; cook over medum heat until a small amount dropped in cold water forms a ball. (maybe 30 minutes)

13Remove from heat, add chocolate pieces and marshmallow cream; stir until melted

14Yield: enough for one 3 layer cake - Cool overnight or a minumum of several hours before cutting so frosting has a chance to set.
