Growing up o the West coast I had never even heard of this cake let alone taste it. When I went home with my husband for the first time to Columbus, Georgia I had it at his mom's house. Oh my word! It is my favorite for sure.

Ingredients For mary's red velvet cake

  • 2 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 bottle
    red food coloring
  • 1 c
    butter
  • 1 c
    buttermilk

How To Make mary's red velvet cake

  • 1
    Cream butter and sugar together. Add buttermilk and flour to sugar mixture alternately beginning and ending with buttermilk. Add everything else. Pour into a 13x9 pan or 3 round cake pans. Bake at 350* for 30 minutes. Let cake cool completely before frosting.

    Frosting: 1 Box of powdered sugar. 10 oz., 8 oz. cream cheese, 1 stick of butter, 1 t. vanilla. Chopped pecans for the top.
