This recipe was another on of my grandmother's. I don't recall ever having this cake, but it sounds DELISH!! I don't know where the name come's from, but I would imagine it's a relative somewhere down the line.

Ingredients For mary martha's surprise cake

  • 1 pkg
    yellow cake mix
  • 1 pkg
    lemon jello ( 4 oz. )
  • 3/4 c
    oil
  • 3/4 c
    water
  • 3 lg
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    lemon extract
  • GLAZE
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp
    grated lemon
  • 1 c
    powdered sugar

How To Make mary martha's surprise cake

    In a mixing bowl; mix the first 6 ingredients for 5 minutes; Pour into greased 11 x 13 baking dish and bake on 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. While cake is still warm, puncture it several times with a fork.

    In a saucepan combine; butter, juice of 1 lemon, grated lemon and powdered sugar. Stir until smooth; pour mixture over the warm cake.
