I love this recipe- the topping always gets me. This was our Friday night dessert, especially when we knew our neighbors were stopping over with homemade ice cream. MMmmmm.

Ingredients For apple walnut cake

  • CAKE:
  • 20 oz
    can apple pie filling
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/4 c
    packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 lg
    eggs,beaten
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2/3 c
    vegetable oil
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts nuts
  • 1/2 tsp
    each of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves
  • TOPPINGS:
  • 1 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts nuts

How To Make apple walnut cake

    Cake: Spray a 13x9-inch baking pan, spread pie filling in bottom. Combine flour, sugar, soda, and salt, and spices. Sprinkle over pie filling. Beat eggs and vanilla, add oil and nuts and mix well. Pour over ingredients in pan , stir and spread evenly. Bake at 350^ for 40-50 minutes.

    Topping: Combine all ingredients except nuts and cook over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil, stirring constantly. Pick top of cake with a fork. Pour icing over top of cake and sprinkle with the nuts.
