When I was growing up I remember my aunt that raised me and another aunt making this cake every yeaR FOR the holidays. My Aunt Helen would make them to give as gifts. She told me she had gotten the the original recipe from her older sister. So I have tried to continue the tradition. But thought it was a little dry so have added applesauce to the recipe.

Ingredients For jam cake

1 1/2 csugar

3 call purpose flour

1/2 cvegetable oil

2 cbuttermilk

1egg
-
1 cjam, any flavor (i use blackberry)

2 tspbaking soda

1/2 tspclove, ground

1/2 tspcinnamon, ground

1 Tbspcocoa powder

1/2 capplesauce
-
1 craisins
-
1 cpecans, in pieces
How To Make jam cake

1Sift flour and baking soda together in small bowl add spice and cocoa

2mix together sugar oil and other liquid ingreditens and egg

3Add flour to liquid mixture

4add pecans and rasins

5Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes or until tooth pick comes out clean.

6I usually make this in 9x13, if making layers cooking time will vary.

7I use Carmel Icing
