This was my mother's recipe. I double the recipe when I take it to a potluck meal. Usually I bring home an empty pan.

Ingredients For hot water chocolate cake

  • 1 Tbsp
    ahortening
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 4 Tbsp
    cocoa, dissolved in 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda, dissolved in 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla

How To Make hot water chocolate cake

  • 1
    Mix all ingredients and pour into 11 x 13 greased pan. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. This cake is very moist and "fudgy".
