My Aunt O used to make what she called a Texas sheet cake for the holidays. This cake comes the closest to duplicating her recipe. My kids all love this cake. I have to admit, it's a favorite of mine as well. Chocolatey goodness and very rich! I do not use the nuts because of allergies but am told that walnuts go well with it.

  • 1
To make the brownies, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease the bottom of a 10x15 jelly roll pan.
  • 2
Cream the melted butter with the sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

    Add the vanilla.
  • 4
Add the flour and mix well.
  • 5
Add the Hershey's syrup. Mix well. Add nuts if desired.
  • 6
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the brownies are done by toothpick test.
  • 7
Meanwhile, prepare the icing as follows:
  • 8
Bring the melted butter, cocoa, and 1 Tbsp milk to a boil in the microwave.
  • 9
In a large bowl, add the confectioners' sugar. Then add the cocoa mixture and beat well.
  • 10
Add the vanilla and the rest of the milk. Add more milk if needed to bring icing to the proper spreading consistency.
  • 11
Let the brownies cool for 5 to 10 minutes, then spread the icing over the brownies. Sprinkle with more nuts, if desired. Allow to cool completely before cutting. Cover and refrigerate after cutting.
