This recipe come from a 1920's cookbook. It's really good with fresh apples. Since this is apple season I thought you could use this great cake. I use Honey Crisp Apples when in season. Of course, any cooking apple will do. Even store bought apple sauce will do. It's so moist,no icing is necessary. I put this up there with my Best Carrot Cake Ever recipe and my Contest winning Rhubarb Coffee Cake. My friends and family love it. It's fabulous!

Ingredients For heirloom fresh applesauce cake

2 1/2 cAll purpose flour

1 1/2 cSugar

1 tspBaking powder

1 tspBaking soda

1 tspSalt

2 tspGround cinnamon

1/2 cVegetable oil

2 1/2 cApplesauce
-
2Large eggs
-
1 cFinely chopped walnuts (optional)

*i take 4 large fresh unpeeled apples and 1/8 cup sugar in a food processor to make a chunky consistency fresh applesauce
How To Make heirloom fresh applesauce cake

1Preheat oven 350 degrees.

2Grease a 9x13 baking pan.

3In large bowl SIFT flour, sugar, salt, baking soda baking powder, and cinnamon.

4In another bowl, mix with a mixer the oil, apple sauce and eggs. Pour mixture in the dry ingredients and mix with mixer until blended. Add nuts and stir.

5Pour into prepared pan. Bake 35 minutes. Cool and serve plain or with a very light dusting of powdered sugar.
