This recipe is from my mother-in-law. She had added it to a hometown recipe book that was published for a fundraiser. "The Art of Cooking in Egg Harbor City" (NJ). No date is on the book, so I don't know exactly when it was printed. I've written the directions exactly as she had them listed. :)

- CAKE:

1/2 cbutter

1 csugar

2eggs, separated

1/4 tspsalt

1/2 cmilk

2 tspbaking powder

1 1/2 cflour

1/2 tspvanilla
- CRUMBS:
-
4 Tbspflour
-
4 Tbspsugar (2 brown & 2 white)

2 Tbspbutter

2 Tbspcinnamon
How To Make grandmom elaine's crumb cake

1Combine butter, brown & white sugar, and cinnamon to make crumbs. Set aside and make the cake.

2Cream butter, then gradually add sugar, then add the egg yolks.

3Mix alternately with milk and sifted dry ingredients.

4Add vanilla and lastly fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

5Pour batter and sprinkle on crumbs.

6Bake in a preheated oven, at 350 degrees, for 35 minutes.
