Ingredients For golden spice cake

2 1/2 ccake flour

2 1/2 tspbaking powder

1/2 tspbaking soda
-
1/4 tspsalt
-
2 tspcinnamon
-
1/4 tspnutmeg
-
1/4 tspallspice, ground
-
1/4 tspmace
-
1/2 tspcloves, ground
-
3/4 cshortening
-
1 cbrown sugar
-
3eggs
-
1 csour milk or buttermilk
How To Make golden spice cake

1Sift flour; measure; add baking powder, soda, salt, and spices; sift again.

2Cream shortening; add sugar gradually; cream together until light and fluffy.

3Add unbeaten eggs one at a time beating thoroughly after each addition.

4Add dry ingredients alternately with sour milk or buttermilk, stirring only enough after each addition to blend thoroughly.

5Pour into a greased pan 13 by 9 by2 inches. (My mother made a round 2 layer cake)

6Bake in a moderate oven (350 F.) 45 to 50 minutes.

7When cool spread with any desired frosting. (My mother used Burnt Sugar Frosting.)
