Ingredients For golden puffs (fried cake doughnuts)

  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 3 tsp
    baking power (if you using double acting baking powder use half the amount.)
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 1/4 c
    oil
  • TOPPING
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • VARIATIONS
  • 1 c
    grated granny smith apples (grate with cheese grater)

How To Make golden puffs (fried cake doughnuts)

    Combine all ingredients and mix with a fork until combined. Variation: If adding grated apples to the mixture do so at the end and fold in.

    Drop by teaspoonfuls into hot oil. Turn when underside is brown and finish cooking. Remove from oil and drain on paper towel. Roll in cinnamon sugar mixture to coat while still warm. Serve warm and delicious. Can be stored in an airtight container if you have any left.
