2¼ ccake flour

1½ csugar

3 tspbaking powder

1 tspsalt

1 cmilk

1½ tspvanilla

2eggs

1/2 cshortening
- CARAMEL FROSTING

1/2 cbutter

1 cdark brown sugar; packed

1/4 tspsalt

1/4 cmilk

2 cconfectioners' sugar
How To Make golden layer cake with caramel frosting

1Heat oven to 350° F. Grease rectangular cake pan.

2Beat all ingredients for the cake in a large bowl occasionally scraping the sides of the bowl. Beat for 3 minutes.

3Pour into pan. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

4For the icing: Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in sugar and salt.

5Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil hard for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

6Remove from heat; cool to lukewarm. Stir in confectioners' sugar and beat until smooth. If frosting is too thick beat in a little milk.
