My mother use to make a gingerbread cake every Christmas. This recipe was handed down from my grandmother who was a pastry chef.

1/2 cshortening

1/2 csugar

1egg

1 cmolasses

3 ccake flour

1-1/2 tspbaking soda

1/2 tspsalt

1 tspcinnamon

1 tspginger powder

1/2 tspcloves

3/4 chot water
How To Make gingerbread cake

1Pre heat oven to 375. Beat together the shortening and sugar until creamy.

2Beat in egg and molasses.

3Mix all the dry ingredients together before adding to the top four ingredients. Mix until moist. Add hot water and beat until very creamy.

4Pour batter into a grease and flour 8 x 8 baking pan.
