4 ozbaker's german sweet chocolate squares

1/2 cboiling water

1 cbutter

2 csugar

4 lgegg yolks

1 tspvanilla

2 1/2 cflour, sifted

1 tspbaking soda

1 cbuttermilk

4 lgegg whites, stiffly beaten

1 ceagle milk

1 csugar

3 lgegg yolks

1/2 cbutter
-
1 tspvanilla

1 1/3 ccoconut

1 cchopped pecans
How To Make german chocolate cake, mom's

1Melt chocolate, cool. Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks one at a time, beat well. Add chocolate and vanilla. Sift flour, soda and salt and add alternately with buttermilk. Beat until smooth. Fold in egg whites and pour into 3 deep 9" round layer cake pans lined with wax paper on the bottom. Bake at 350 degrees 30-40 min. Cool. Frost tops only and layer.

2Frosting: Cook together 1 c eagle milk, 1 c sugar, 3 egg yolks, 1/2 c butter and 1 t vanilla to thicken over med heat, about 12 min. Add coconut and nuts.
