This is my friend Lavette's recipe. One year on our way home from visiting, she sent us home with this cake....my son and I ate it over the next 24 hours that it took for us to drive and we fought over who got the last piece! The recipe calls for 5 eggs, and it is needed because of the weight of the figs.

Ingredients For fig cake

  • 5
    eggs
  • 1 pt
    preserved figs
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    dark brown syrup (karo or molasses)
  • 7-8 c
    flour, unsifted
  • 1 c
    crisco (oil will not work)

How To Make fig cake

  • 1
    Preheat oven 350. Grease and flour 9x13 pan.
  • 2
    Combine ingredients and pour into prepared pan. Bake until done. Do not pick test for doneness, after cake has browned-- pat center to tell.
