This is an old recipe from 1941. My grampa use to make this when I was younger & then my mom took it over. It is made in an 8 inch square pan.

Ingredients For dutch apple cake

2 csifted flour
-
3 tspbaking powder
-
2 Tbspsugar

1/2 tspsalt
-
1/4 cshortening
-
1egg, beaten
-
3/4 cmilk
-
1/4 cbutter
-
1/2 cfirmly packed brown sugar

1 tspcinnamon
-
1 Tbspheavy cream
-
2 cthinly sliced apples
How To Make dutch apple cake

1FIRST MIXTURE: Sift flour, baking powder & salt together; add sugar. Cut in shortening thoroughly.

2Combine egg & milk; add to first mixture to make a soft dough. Set aside......

3BOTTOM LAYER: Crust - - Melt butter; add brown sugar, cinnamon & heavy cream - mix well. Turn into greased 8 inch square pan.

4Press apple slices into crust mixture & then spread dough (first mixture) over apples.

5Bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. Serve with whipped cream....
